Cannington Life Extension Project

BHP Billiton is seeking the approval of the Queensland Government to extend the life of its existing mining and processing operation at Cannington Mine in North West Queensland.

In order to gain approval for the project, an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) has been prepared and details potential environmental, social, cultural and economic issues arising in the construction and operational phases and at closure, and how these issues would be managed.

The complete EIS is available below and has been divided into sections to allow easier download.

Cannington Mine is also encouraging communities, individuals and special interest groups to provide feedback on the proposed Cannington Life Extension Project and EIS to the State Government. You can do this by posting written comments to:

The EIS Co-ordinator, Cannington Life Extension Project
Environment and Natural Resource Regulation Division
Department of Environment and Resource Management
GPO Box 2454
Level 7, 400 George Street
BRISBANE QLD 4001

Submissions close Monday 23 August 2010.
